A fair comment
Dec. 22nd, 2005 08:03 amOn the news this morning: the (bloody ugly) statue of Donald Dewar which stands at the top of Buchanan Street in front of the Concert Hall is being returned today after its two-month refurbishment. Since it was erected, it’s been the target for some minor vandalism, principally damaging the glasses. To prevent this happening again, the statue will now be stuck on top of a two-metre plinth.
However, on the day it was removed from Buchanan Street a couple of months ago, there were those with a different take on what was going to be done. As I was hurrying down from Sauchiehall Street, I noticed the work going on to take it down, and the wee clutch of people watching it. I distinctly heard one bachle say, “Maybe they’re taking him away to put a smile on his face.”
