... At which I sucked. Got from [livejournal.com profile] eskoala

1. Put your music player on random.
2. Post the first line from the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
3. Let everyone guess what song and artist (or musical) the lines come from.
4. Embolden the songs when someone guesses correctly.

Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!

So here's the list. Some of them, I have given the first two lines (tempting as it was to leave one with the single word I). Some of the stuff that came up I forgot was on there, the result of bunging on a couple of compilation albums and forgetting about them. I was surprised that some of the newer music I have on it didn't crop up... and then I remembered it was on the SD card which I had taken out of the player. :)

  1. Drinking in the morning sun / Blinking in the morning sun — Elbow, One Day Like This

  2. Aah, aah / You better beware, you better take care — The Sweet, Blockbuster

  3. Hey little girl would you like a dance / Hey little girl want a quick romance — Marc Bolan, Celebrate Summer

  4. Didnt know what time it was the lights were low oh-ow — The Cybernauts, Starman

  5. Make your bed up high / Pray into the sky — John Kongos, Tokoloshe Man

  6. Birds flying high / You know how I feel — John Barrowman, Feeling Good

  7. Zoo time is she and you time — Sparks, This Town Ain't Big Enough for Both of Us

  8. Wake up in the morning with a head like "what you done?" — Scissor Sisters, I Don't Feel Like Dancing

  9. And now the end is near / And so I face the final curtain, a-ha-ha! — The Sex Pistols, My Way

  10. She's a wonderful lady / And she's mine all mine — The Monkees, Randy Scouse Git

  11. Gold coast slave ship bound for cotton fields — The Rolling Stones, Brown Sugar

  12. No virgin me / For I have sinned — Chumbawumba, Mary, Mary

  13. I / I would be queen — Blondie, Heroes (Live)

  14. I've just seen a face / I can't forget the time or place — The Beatles, I've Just Seen a Face

  15. Back then long time ago when grass was green / Woke up in a daze — George Harrison, When We Was Fab

  16. Bin ich schoner / Zerschneid mir das Gesicht — Rammstein, Eifersucht

  17. Well, hurry on sundown / see what tomorrow brings — Hawkwind, Hurry On Sundown

  18. Uh-huh make me tonight / Tonight — Blondie, Atomic

  19. Nobody knows how long / Rustling leaves unrhyme I'm sorry — Talk Talk, Time It's Time

  20. I would die for you — Garbage, #1 Crush

[ETA: Number 6 is a cover by someone who is incredibly ubiquitous on TV these days; Number 15 is a bit obscure, but the artist is someone you will definitely have heard of, being one of the most famous musicians of the past 45 years or so; Number 11, I would have thought, was pretty obvious; Number 13 is a cover, the altered lyrics from the original giving a clue to the group who are also responsible for one of the other tracks.]

A, two half right... It's Starman, but not Bowie (I'd give you it, but if no one else does [livejournal.com profile] bass_geek should get who it is).

Rammstein, yes, but not Sonne.

*wracks brain* I dunno. I know Bauhaus did a cover of 'Ziggy Stardust' but dunno whose done other covers.

The Rammstien one would be easier were I at home with my full music collection

This is not the only Bowie cover this bunch did, and it's a live concert recording.

Yeah, the Rammstein one is tricky. I'll leave it for a bit just in case anyone gets it.

That's right, of course, and I completely agree. I heard them do it on Jools Holland's programme the other week, liked it so much I went out and bought the album (thinking, who needs food...?) Can't stop listening to it.

Right song, but it isn't Nina Simone singing it... The singer on this track may be someone you would not think of first as a singer.

Six is 'Feeling Good', I have a Muse cover but I can't remember who did the original.

Nine is 'My Way', Sinatra.

Feeling Good is right, You will definitely have heard of the singer, although you possibly they're not someone you would think of first as a singer.

My Way is right, of course, but it ain't Sinatra, and there is a clue in the first lines I quoted. :)

Aah, aah / You better beware, you better take care
Arghhh ... I know this, just can't remember the title (or artist, someone like T-Rex or that era) oh, Blockbuster!

# Didn't know what time it was the lights were low oh-ow
Starman - David Bowie (is that the title?)

# Birds flying high / You know how I feel
And I'm Feeling Good - many artists have done this, so Muse?

# And now the end is near / And so I face the final curtain, a-ha-ha!
My Way - Sex Pistols?

# I / I would be queen
And you, you would be king
drat, it's on the tip of my tongue ... and my brain is now playing it with a U2/Edge guitar riff!

# I've just seen a face / I can't forget the time or place
Very familiar, and very much like a Beatles lyric too :-)

Number 2: you are so close, I think I should give you that one; it's Blockbuster by the Sweet. Really surprised me when it played; I forgot it was on the LoM soundtrack album.

Number 4 is Starman, but it isn't Bowie; number 6 isn't muse, it's being sung by someone you have definitely heard of, but possibly don't think of first as a singer; number 13 - put all U2-ish thoughts out of your head.

You're spot on with numnber 9, it is the mental Sex Pistols version of My Way.

You know, there might be a reason why that's very much like a Beatles lyric... ;)

As I said to you last night, it isn't Muse, it isn't the original, it is a recent cover by someone fairly well-known (indeed, difficult to miss these days).

Someone... who is some of the time resident in Wales, come to think of it.
