The weekend (Friday till Sunday evening) was spent at Confounding Tales! It was a very good weekend, as might be expected the CT crowd put together a con full of fun and madness and the occasional bit that was very informative. Probably a mistake. Saturday evening featured the wedding(s) of the Space Baron; I hope someone caught the expressions on the faces of the ceilidh band in a photograph.

The worst part of the weekend was the bus services, run by Arriva. I was quite under the weather at the start of the con, having some problems walking even, and this was not helped by waiting for ages for non-existent buses.

The hotel staff were generally helpful, where communication could be established (one or two cases would have benefited from a universal translator), but there has to be a big black mark against the menu. At the end of National Vegetarian Week, too. The hotel had a fairly extensive menu with just two vegetarian options. Both of which relied heavily on cheese, so not exactly helpful to anyone with problems tolerating lactose. On the first night, they did knock together a pasta sauce, which was very pleasant but a bit overpriced. (The prices would be higher than average in the centre of Glasgow.)

It would be difficult to pick out the best parts of the weekend. [livejournal.com profile] jamesb slamming into the wall during [livejournal.com profile] satellite_1’s Probing Uranus game (in which we discovered that you do not need obscure space probes to baffle fans as to their destinations: they had enough difficulty figuring out where Mars Express went); Biscuit Wars; tacky Cthulhu Mythos merchandise; and the Pub Quiz of Horror* (loved the suggestion from [livejournal.com profile] tlanti that Dracula Graf Orlock in Nosferatu had been played by Rod Stewart; and [livejournal.com profile] rhionnach’s muttering at one point of Wes Craven’s Newsround...); and, of course, the Ca’Canny for which endless thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sha_d for her efforts (and indeed generosity).

Good to see so many friendly faces. Increasingly gutted I can’t make Teledu...

I'm glad I could provide amusement! :) And I agree with you - the hotel menu was the very definition of naff... although the jacket potatoes weren't too bad...

We spent more time eating chips this weekend than I can recall doing, ever. I have had worse, I suppose. (Yes, Adelphi, I am looking at YOU.)

Lovely to get a chance to talk to you at the weekend. :)

I'm very glad I decided not to bother with the hotel food and made my own arrangements.

The food thing is made even more annoying by the fact that, being a meat eater I eally enjoyed the fajitas I had. They could cook well, they just seem to have chosen not to.
Glad everyone had fun though.

I gathered from [livejournal.com profile] psychochicken and [livejournal.com profile] zantic that their fish on Friday left something to be desired. It did seem that some things they could do well ([livejournal.com profile] dalg also commented on the fajitas being OK), other things were just not very good.

I was also struck by the way the hotel staff always seemed to go around in trios, except when they were reduced to pairs... Did we frighten them?
