Probably not going to be much more from me before (or during) Eastercon. Looking forward a lot to the new Who on Saturday. The Radio Times splashes out on the new series with a fold out cover, and 16 pages on the series. The nicest touch, though, is in the listing for the series on Saturday’s listings page, where it says that …the Tardis is back, with David Tennant at the helm, for more thrilling adventures in time and space.

That nicely echoes the description, An adventure in time and space, which used to appear under Doctor Who in the Radio Times when Hartnell was the Doctor. This sense of going back to the programme’s roots while making a thoroughly modern series is one of the things that makes the new series shine.

Incidentally, there are a couple of pictures of the new Cybermen in the issue, one on the fold-out cover, and one inside with the listing of the new series’ episodes. The one on the cover, though, is different: there’s a visible brain, and there are large sockets (or something) on the chest. I think this must be the new version of the Cybercontroller, as first seen in “The Tomb of the Cybermen” in 1967.

Keep calm, keep calm...

I once tried writing a 'true' origin for the Cybermen: http://highstone.livejournal.com/44306.html

Absolutly. I don't know about the earlier series, but the contemporary series does indeed shine. It's empheral(sp) ...? I am very excited about saturday :-) ~ except my mum is having to record it for me. I take it you are going to Eastercon? Will you be able to see Who there? One of the other folks on my flist is going, and I'm sure I remember them expressing concern whether they'd be able to see it.
PS Did you hear the Tennant interview on Radio 1?

Doctor Who is a programme item, technical issues allowing. Yay!

Didn't hear the interview, unfortunately.

Bought the Dr Who magazine, allegedly for Vari but am trying to see a way to nick the free gifts (pencil case, ribber, pencil, ruler, pen). The CBBC prog "Totally Dr Who" is on presently...
Saw David Tennant being interviewed by John Barrowman on "This Morning" yesterday. Yum!

Enjoy Trout & Eastercon - sorry still too glum to make it to either.

You might find if you came along you'd have fun; or perhaps not, I know what it's like. It's bvery individual. I hope you feel less glum soon.
