Not sure how many of you have ever organised anything. Looking at my friends list, I see quite a few there who have organised things in various spheres. It is probably no news to you that I have been involved in organising some things, most recently two (or three) moots, the odd Samhuinn party, a ritual for the opening of the past two Witchfests Scotland, and the resurgent Glasgow SF fan group (see ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-community.gif)
glasgow_fen). Oh, then there is stuff I have done with different organisations (such as the APT).
Someone said to me a couple of years ago that if there was a pie in Glasgow, I had my finger in it. That is nowhere near being true (thankfully!), but it does sometimes feel as though it were, especially when energy is flagging and there is much to do. The trick, of course is to find capable people to delegate to... which is not always easy. Or to set things up, as with Trout, so that they need almost no organisation (I don’t really see a monthly email to remind people that it is happening as very taxing).
The thing about organising anything, though, is knowing whether or not it is going well. People are often prepared to grumble, although not necessarily about things that really matter to the people that matter; they are less inclined to say when things are going well. You can easily run something for over a year which is actually going well, with everyone thinking it is great, and yet no one ever saying anything positive about it, at least not in your hearing.
So it was very pleasant to get a message from someone who had finally made it along to Trout saying that he had really enjoyed it:
That is the sort of comment that makes running things worthwhile; and it is particularly good because, while we thought of the Resurgence of Trout primarily in terms of what the old Trout had been, if we had to describe it to people who knew nothing of FOKT,
