Where’s the Trade Descriptions Act when you need it?

Just started on Radio 4 is a programme of “humour” so creaky it makes me long for up-to-date, cutting-edge stuff like Round The Horne or ITMA. The continuity announcer claimed that “Pam Ayres entertains”, which is as far from the truth as it is possible to get. I think I would rather listen to Making Tracks.

Good Lord, I never knew she was still alive. Pam Ayres followed by You and Yours, eh? Top Radio 4 entertainment there, marvellous. Keep up the good work. Tossers.

That's a bit like Big Cook Little Cook Plays Webern, isn't it?

She still is, I’m afraid, but on the evidence of what I heard before I got to the power switch her jokes aren’t.

I thought Pam Ayres had been safely consigned to the memory hole about 30 years ago. Still, It's not *all* bad on Radio 4 - the Reith Lectures this year are being given by Daniel Barenboim, better yet the website gives printable transcriptions as well as mp3s; somehow I feel more at ease mulling over a lecture in printed form.

Ah, yes, thanks for reminding me, I meant to go and check the Reith Lectures page out.
