Tube system on “Code Amber” alert

The BBC site now has an initial report on the incidents:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4703777.stm

BBC News 24 is reporting that the tube system is being put on Code Amber, which means it will be shut down. The whole of the Northern Line, the Victoria Line and the Hammersmith and City Line have already been suspended. [UPDATE: it now seems the “Code Amber” is limited to those lines.]

“Code Amber” is the highest alert level, and means that an attack has taken place.

There also appears to have been an incident on a bus.

Latest on the TV: the police are not treating this as a major incident as yet.

The Shepherds Bush 'incident' delayed my journey into work - looks like it was either copycat or cock-up. In any case, the boys in blue are doing a serious manhunt right now for the perps...
Word is that one is holed up somewheres in the University of London right now.

The reports suggest the incidents involved devices which are described as “dummy nail bombs” — detonators, but no actual explosive.

News 24 has reported that there's an internal memo going around University College Hospital telling people to look out for a guy with wires sticking out of his clothes.

From the reaction an eye-witness described, it sounds like a failed suicide bomber.
